about

My name is Alex Barrie; Sports Massage Therapist, Emmett Therapy Advanced Practitioner, Emmett For Dogs Practitioner, Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Instructor. After spending 8 years working in an office-based environment, in 2013 I became sorrowfully aware of how little time most of the people I encountered took to look after their bodies.

I identified the 4 main areas of issue as:

Movement (or lack thereof)

Proper Nutrition

Appropriate recovery from injury

Dealing with Stress

I moved to the in the fitness industry to create a company that would help individuals adapt their lives positively to incorporate the aforementioned 4 areas. Unfortunately, shortly after getting my first job as a gym instructor, I suffered terrible hip and back pain and restriction which prohibited proper training for a good 6 months. However, using a combination of Corrective Exercise Techniques, Emmett Therapy and other treatments I overcame the issue and am pain-free to this day.

I use the same methodology that helped me to permanently overcome my restrictive pain to help those who approach me for advice. There is no big secret. By identifying the cause of pain and restriction and Treating it, Correcting any postural imbalances that may aggravate said cause and then Training the body to become stronger, I have found many people can be helped to (in some cases permanently) overcome conditions which prohibit enjoying life to the full.

Who Is the one body service for?

Literally everyone.

Anyone can suffer from muscle tension and pain.

“I lead a stressful life.”

With the ever-rising demands on our energy and time from work and family life, our bodies are experiencing more stress and strain resulting in muscle tension, dysfunction and pain.

One Body’s Treatment and Corrective services can help alleviate everyday aches and pains, postural imbalances and stress.

“What if I’m suffering from an injury/pain?”

More of us are undertaking a more active lifestyle. Whether you’re a weekend warrior, a committed gym-goer, an amateur or professional athlete it’s highly likely you’ve experienced restriction, pain
and/or injury, which has inhibited your ability to perform in your favouritepursuit. One Body has much experience in isolating the cause of the issue creating and implementing Treatment and Training plans to alleviate it.

“I’m post-surgery andhave hadphysiotherapy, but still struggle when returning to higher levels of activity.”

One Body has experience in aiding individuals who have undergone surgery in reclaiming their physical ability to perform an activity. Whether it’s a sport, a regular fitness regimen or even just an active lifestyle involving family and kids there’s a method of Correction which can help you achieve the optimum from your body.

“As I get older, I find I struggle with physical activity.”

Unfortunately, we all age and as such experience more pain from activity. Even from our 30s we can notice a decrease in stamina and an increase in the amount of niggles and aches we experience. Nonetheless, we can achieve the optimum from our bodies by increasing focus on flexibility and recovery. By learning how to relieve tight muscles, improve mobility and undergoing proper conditioning we can reduce the risk of injury and manage pain effectively.

What is sports massage & do I need it?

What does sports massage entail?

We use a wide variety of massage techniques to:

  1. Restore function to fatigued or injured muscles and improve mobility.
  2. Assist sporting performance by easing tight muscles decreasing pain and aiding recovery.
  3. Help alleviate the mental and physical effects of occupational or emotion stress and pressure.

I work long hours and keep in shape at the gym but I’m not an athlete

Doesn’t matter! Anyone can suffer from muscle tension and pain. We all lead increasingly busy and stressful lives and working long hours – whether in an office or a manual occupation or looking after a busy family – can all put strain on the body resulting in muscle tension, dysfunction and pain. Remedial massage can help many people struggling with everyday aches and pains, postural imbalances and stress.

I’m training for an event

Fantastic! Many more of us are taking part in sport and whether you’re a first-time marathon runner or a seasoned athlete we can help. Regular therapy can aid the recovery process between training, help prevent and recover from injury as well as improve performance.

I’m getting older but really want to continue with my sporting activities

We’re right with you! Alas, none of us can prevent getting older, however being able to continue with our favourite activities is vital to our overall fitness and well-being. Nevertheless, whether you are a golfer, cyclist, runner or horse-rider you will undoubtedly have experienced niggles and aches. We can ease those tight muscles and improve overall mobility and muscle condition, allowing you to continue the activities you love.

I get quite stressed with work and family pressures, could it help me relax?

Definitely! Occupational and emotional stress often results in muscle tension and pain. Deep tissue massage can aid relaxation and promote general wellbeing and therefore help reduce the effects of stress.

So it’s for anyone then?

Yes! No two people are the same and therefor each treatment is tailored to each individual.

How does it work?

Initial Consultation

Your first step is to book your initial consultation (see below). During the initial consultation we will discuss your medical history, the condition(s) you’re suffering from and perform an indepth postural and movement assessment.

From this we will have a clear picture about your current position and your desired result.

One Body App

I will then set you up an account on the One Body app; the platform through which your corrective routines will be delivered to you. The app can be accessed online or via your mobile device. The app will show you:

  • The exercises to be performed.

  • The repetitions or amount of time to be spent on each exercise.

  • Instructional video with accompanying notation on how to easily perform each exercise.

Optional Tracking
